Tune in to GauchoTV

Posted by Doug on February 20th, 2010 in GauchoNews, GauchoTV

GauchoCast? GauchoTV? Livestreaming GauchoTV? What’s going on?

It seems there’s been some confusion out there with our Twitter friends and others. Sorry we didn’t explain this better. Here’s the deal.

GauchoTV

Gaucho TV is savings news, product reviews and general merriment in short, easily digestible segments brought to you by our buddy Marv.

GauchCast

Is now GauchoTV! We changed the name last week.

Live, Streaming GauchoTV

It’s GauchoTV. Only this week, we’ll start broadcasting live.

That’s right, starting Thursday February 25th at 9PM EST/6PM PST, GauchoTV will be streaming live, each week, every week.

For our first show, Marv will be talking to Julia from The Frugal Find. They’ll discuss ways to save, of course, plus they’ll give away prizes ($25 Gift Cards to Target), answer questions, give you the low-down on what savings blogs to follow, and even explain how you, yes you!, can start blogging.

You can tune into the premier of Live GauchoTV at Live.Gaucho.com.

Is it nobler to subscribe and suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fees, or to take up arms against a sea of providers, and by opposing, end them?

In this episode of GauchoTV, Marv talks about DVRs and different ways to get entertainment out of your computer and into your TV. Also we talk about the upcoming GauchoTV LIVE event and introduce Marv’s twitter. Sound self-indulgent? Yeah, it probably is. But enjoy it nonetheless.

Don’t Forget! Next Week GauchoTV goes LIVE

When: Thursday, February 25 at 9EST/6PST

Where: Live.Gaucho.com

In our quest to become the ultimate cyber community for everything sales, social, cheap, free, and fun, Gaucho is giving away something a little different this time — blogs.

Blogs Here, Getcha Blogs Here

Have you ever been reading the GauchoBlog, or The Frugal Find, or any blog, and thought, ‘Oh, I could do that if I had someone to build a website for me.’

Awesome. Then we can’t wait to see the deals you blog about, because Gaucho is giving you your own free blog on GauchoPages. So if you’re not into designing your own blog, but you want to talk savings, Gaucho is the place to do it. Why are we doing this? Because. We love talking about savings, we love blogs, we love giving you free stuff, and we think you’re going to love your GauchoPage. Setup is a snap and the designs are sweet.

If you already have a blog, you can import your RSS feed and share your goods with the great Gaucho crowd.

See for Yourself: GauchoTV

Want to see a GauchoPage in action? Here’s our old buddy Marv’s new GauchoPage … and … drumroll please! — the new home of GauchoTV!

Get Your Own Page

Want your own GauchoPage? Cool. Just visit the Pages section of your Gaucho Profile.

If you don’t have a profile, sign up for Gaucho now to get going.

Are you offering a discount on a product or service that you’d like to get some exposure on?

Well, if you’re a true-blooded Gaucho, you know that you can post your deal to the GSS to let the Gaucho crowd know about it.

But, if that’s not good enough for you, then pitch Gaucho.

That’s right, pitch Gaucho.

Pitch Gaucho

If you have a deal or a product that you’d like me to blog about or Marv to do a GauchoCast on, then hey, let us know. Tell us about your deal, and what makes it a good deal. Or, if you have a product that can help people to save money, tell us about it.

If we think you have a good enough deal or product, then we’ll write a post or create a video blog about it for the thousands of readers and watchers following the GauchoBlog. If that sounds good to you, just leave a comment on this blog post, or email our PR department at tolu@gaucho.net.

Exclusive Discounts

If you really want to get business rolling, email Tolu (tolu@gaucho.net) to discuss the possibility of promoting an exclusive discount within the Gaucho community.

Everyone is more than welcome to post their discounts to our GSS. But, not everyone gets promoted as a Gaucho partner offering an exclusive discount. If you have an exclusive discount that you want to offer the Gaucho community and we think it’s good enough, then we’ll include it in our email newsletter. Plus, we mightblog about it or do a video cast on it, too. It all depends.

You won’t find out until you contact us.

Why Are We Doing This?

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Meaning, what’s good for the Gauchos is good for Gaucho. We’re all about sharing the savings at Gaucho, so if you have some savings to share, let us know about your deal so we can share it with others.

See how nicely this works? I’m telling ya, we could be great together.

If you follow Gaucho on Twitter, then you  know we’ve become the best place to find updates on deals and ways to save. Judging by our rapidly growing follower numbers, we’re not alone in thinking this.

Now we’re asking you to take just a second of your time to help us out.

Please, vote for @GauchoSave to win a Shorty Award!!!

How: Can You Spare a Tweet?

It only takes a tweet. There are two ways to vote for us:

1. Visit the Shorty Awards and give us a tweet. Now, there’s no ‘Savings’ category, so please use the hashtag #savings when you vote.

2. If you’re like us, you’re Twitteraddicts and already have your favorite Twitter app open and ready for tweeting. Just copy and paste this and you’re ready to rock. Tweet. Whatever. You get what I mean.

I nominate @GauchoSave for a Shorty Award in #savings because…

And be sure to give your reason. (If you don’t enter a reason, your vote won’t count and we’ll be sad.)

Why: Help us Grow

We work hard to provide you with the best savings information around. Given the current tough financial environment, our new Gaucho friends have responded with some amazing messages of positive appreciation for what Gaucho is working to do.

We’re humbled and thankful for the great response. But as a crowdsourced endeavor, Gaucho is only as good as its members. We’re just a tiny startup and winning this award would help us to gain more media coverage and members, which means more deals — and more ways to save — for you.

So whaddaya say? Just one lil tweet? We’ll be your best friend forever. Promise.

About: The Shorties

This year marks the second annual Shorty Awards.

The Shorty Awards honor the best people and organizations on Twitter. These unique awards are for the Twitter community, by the Twitter community. Online voting is public and democratic, culminating in an awards ceremony that recognizes the winners in 27 official categories as well as those in brand new crowd-sourced ones.

Thanks!

We hope you take a second to vote. We really appreciate all the great support our Gauchos have given us.

(And yes, we really will be your bff.)

In theory, women should be pretty easy to shop for with the plethora of female products on the market, but we know sometimes guys need a bit of help. Just look at Doug’s ridiculous post on the subject. Clearly, he needs help.

Here’s your gift guide to finding fun and interesting presents for the women in your life.

moore2n

There’s been a lot of buzz around this new fragrance by Helena Rubinstein for Demi Moore, Wanted. Just take a peek at Demi Moore Twitter’s page and you’ll see how women are loving it for its woody scents with creamy floral facets. Wanted is a sophisticated scent that is so named because the fragrance makes the wearer feel wanted and lets them know they are wanted.

20091220-1dman5wtxuhp1j2amdu3h16tu9There’s no justifiable reason why your wife or girlfriend should be lugging around a boring, so-so laptop bag. Do her a favour and get her a super fashionable bag for her laptop this Christmas – or help her protect it with a chic sleeve such as this one by Orla Kiely.

Susan-Boyle-I-Dreamed-A-Dream

Numbers don’t lie, and Susan Boyle’s new album has sold more than 1.8 million copies worldwide and continues to sit atop the Billboard charts. That must mean it’s good, right? If you think Susan Boyle may not be her style then consider albums such as Taylor Swift’s Fearless or Andrea Boticelli’s My Christmas; all are top seller albums for 2009.

If you’re looking to surprise your spouse, partner, or nagging teenage kids with the new mobile device they desperately want (or perhaps actually need) — well then, you’ve come to the right post. Here’s a look at what the big mobile device companies are offering for the holiday season.

AT&T

AT&T has a gift finder guide to help you select the perfect phone.

They also suggest their USBConnect Lighting, High Speed Internet, AT&T U-verse, and netbooks as gifts. How convenient! That covers just about all of their products, right?

The Deals

AT&T is offering an instant online rebate when you add a line. You can get a free phone (with free shipping), but selection is limited to their Samsung a777, the LG Neon, and the LG CF360.

This seems like a standard deal, however it is a good way to get a solid mobile phone for kids and others that can survive with a basic device — not that these phones don’t have tons of features, but they’re not an iPhone.

Speaking of which, iPhone prices have never been lower. You can get an iPhone 3G for $99, a 16GB iPhone 3GS for $199, and a 32GB iPhone 3gs for $299. This may not be cheap, but compared to the original 2007 iPhone price of $599, these prices are far more affordable — not to mention the 3G and 3GS versions are faster and have additional functions, like the ability to record video (3GS only).

If you decide to surprise someone with an iPhone, the rates for iPhone plans usually average around $100 per month. So, make sure they, or you, are prepared to pay that monthly cost.

To find the real deals on plans and packages, you’ll need to visit the AT&T Bundles page and enter your ZIP to find out about pricing and promos near you.

Sprint

Guess what? Sprint has a Holiday Phone Finder.

The Deals

Sprint is offering a free LG LX370 when you purchase online and commit to a plan, and this also includes free shipping. Again, this seems like one of their standard promos and nothing special for the holidays.

For their Holiday savings promo, they do have a number of accessories on sale at 20% off when you buy online. This deal includes vehicle and wall chargers, Samsung Headsets, memory cards, and styley skins, pouches, and covers to protect your mobile gear.

Once again, to find the real deals on plans and packages, you’ll have to visit the Sprint Packages page and enter your ZIP to find out about pricing and promos near you.

Verizon

Verizon claims that it’s “The Best Destination for Holiday Gifts.” My money is still on the North Pole for that one, but if you’re talking mobile devices … this claim might be legit.

The Deals

Verizon has 5 different BlackBerry devices on sale (from $9.99 to $179.99) and 5 smartphones on sale (from $49.99 to $199.99), including the Google Android-based DROID ERIS by HTC, the Windows Mobile HTC Imagio, and the Samsung Omnia II. All advanced smart phones at reasonable prices.

On top of that, for their holiday offering, Verion has a slew of phones featured and on sale. These range from free to $99.99, and like all the other Verizon deals, require a service plan commitment.

If that’s not enough, Verizon also has mobile broadband devices on sale and wide selection of free phones (that require a 2-year activation plan).

What’s more — they have exclusive online deals and popular packages (by ZIP).

T-Mobile

T-Mobile offers some decent finds on low rates every day. They are also offering some great deals right now, which include free overnight shipping on orders places by 12/22, 2PM PST.

The Deals

T-Mobile is running discounts on some slick “Wish List Approved” phones. Prices range wildly, from free up to $449.99, depending on the phone and the plan you select. If you decide to go for one of the big guns, you can even pay for your phone in montly installments (with approved credit).

T-Mobile offers their Even More plans and Even More Plus plans, which have some of the best pricing in the industry and include unlimited calling to other T-Mobile phones. The Even More Plus plan requires no annual contract, but devices are sold at suggested retail. T-Mobile also offers prepaid plans.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile is another place to find everyday low prices on mobile phones and plans.

If you’re looking for a mobile phone with a social, messaging, or multi-media focus, PLUS unlimited montly calling for $49.99, this could be the way to go.

The Deals

Virgin has 5 mobile devices on sale until January 13th, 2010 — the LG Rumor2 for $104, the Kyocera X-tc for $80, the UTStarcom Shuttle for $64, the UTStarcom Arc for $24, and the Samsung Slash for $40.

MetroPCS

MetroPCS is another low cost provider with great national rates on plans. Right now, these range from $30 to $45 per month.

The Deals

MetroPCS is selling select Motorola phones at up to $70 off. Plus, with their Family Unlimited plan, you can get 4 lines for $100 a month. That’s tough to beat.

Who’s Got the Best Deal?

Well, as usual, it depends on what you’re looking to get. If you want an iPhone, then as the exclusive service provider, AT&T has the best (only) deal. Of course, you can also visit Apple to purchase an iPhone.

If you want to get an advanced phone, or select from a wide variety of phones, Verizon might be for you. Those that use a lot of minutes or who are looking for budget plans would likely do well with T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and MetroPCS.

Really, it’s your call.

Gaucho GR1.1 — Voila!

Posted by Doug on December 9th, 2009 in GauchoNews

Yay! Late last night we released what we’re calling Gaucho version GR1.1.

This fix resolves many of the issues that have been affecting user experience.

For the time being, our product search comparison engine has also been removed. This is to assure the stability of the Gaucho site as a whole. Meanwhile, our awesome dev team is revving up the search engine to make it even faster and more accurate. We’re doing a lot all at once and appreciate your help and patience.

Find all the Deals You Need

While product search is on hold, that doesn’t mean the saving has stopped. Hardly. Rather, with all the great holiday deals out there, the GSS is still the best place to find, filter, and share those deals. Just take a quick look. It’s bound to save you money on holiday gift-givigang.

Keep it Coming

As we continue to fix bugs and other known issues, your feedback is well-received and super valuable. If you encounter any issues or have any suggestions, please let us know. We may not be able to respond to every suggestion we get, but please know we look at all of them and hope all our new Gauchos will continue to share their thoughts, as they see fit.

Thanks again for your help and patience.
