Gaucho’s 12 Days of Christmas Savings: Bling in the New Year with these Holiday Ring Deals

Posted by Max on December 16th, 2009 in Deals and Discounts, Ways to Save

Guys, there’s nothing that ladies like more than jewelry. If they say otherwise, they lie. If you have a great women in your life that you want to make happy, buying her jewelry for a gift is a smart move. There’s a reason that this is the most popular time of the year to get engaged and give anniversary rings, or any rings, as gifts.

Ladies, we know how much you like to go everywhere with your best friends (diamonds). So, if you’re wondering where to find your girls, this is the place to start your search (and your man is only a link away from being that much smarter).

Here are 5 places to find that perfect ring.

1. Go Big: Tiffany & Co.

If you’re looking to impress with a big rock and a hefty price tag, then Tiffany’s rings set the standard. Tiffany has a special holiday collection of rings (with complimentary shipping), but you can expect to pay at least $1,500 for anything in the Tiffany Celebration Rings set. If you’re looking for an engagement ring, a Tiffany engagement ring begins at over $8,000.

If that sounds a bit more expensive than you were thinking, Tiffany also has gifts for under $150, under $500, and under $1000 — but the ring selection is sparse.

2. Go Popular: Shane Co.

Your friend in the diamond business. You know the ads. They probably make you a little crazy inside. It’s okay. Most of us feel that way.

But Shane Co. does offer extremely competitive pricing on good quality rings. They have a large selection of engagement rings and wedding bands. For the holiday season, they are promoting their anniversary rings, which range in price from $300 – $8,000 and their exclusive halo head engagement rings, which lets you create your own ring. Of course, you can always design your own traditional engagement ring to match a certain budget you might have in mind.

All in all, Shane Co. is a good place to find a huge selection of rings and you’re very likely to find a deal that suits your price range.

3. Go to the Mall: Sears, JC Penney, and Macy’s

Sears

Sears has a huge assortment of rings on sale. You’ll need to do some browsing to find something that suits your liking, but many of their rings are marked down through the end of the week for holiday shoppers. If you want to score a good deal, you’ll need to make your move by Friday the 18th — the last sale day on most of their rings.

JCPenney

Of course, the store behind that famous Stay out of the Doghouse video has rings. And, of course, they made a sequel.

So, don’t be a DualBag, dude. Get her a ring.

JCPenney’s will make that easier for you, with rings on sale for 40-60% off.

Macy’s

With a wide variety of types and prices, Macy’s is a good spot to look for rings. Like the other big name department stores, you won’t find the most unique rings in the world, but you will find some great deals during this time of year.

If fact, today is the last Macy’s One Day Sale of the Year. So, today only, you can find rings at 30-40% off, then get an extra 15% off. Not bad. Not bad at all. Plus, if you shop online, you can get an extra 25-50% off clearance rings.

I’ve purchased rings from Macy’s before as gifts, so I will tell you two things: 1) They do a horrendous job sizing rings if you order online. If you find something online, don’t be afraid to buy it, but take it to your local Macy’s to have it sized. Even the Macy’s salespeople will tell you this. 2) Macy’s customer service is very responsive to issues with rings that have been purchased online.

4. Go Crazy: Pier 1

If you’re looking for gifts for the little ladies in your life or are on the hunt for stocking stuffers, Pier 1 is selling some fashion-forward glass rings, flourette rings, and Bead Goes on Rings for $4 – $5. I’ve heard some women buzzing about these. And, yes, that’s 4 (four) U.S. dollars.

I’d encourage you to shop here and not Tiffany’s to find the best deal, but then you run the risk of ending up in the doghouse. Do so at your own risk.

5. Get Lost

For something truly unique in the way of a ring, you might have to forget the big chain names and get lost in the land of specialty and boutique jewelers.

Local jewelers are a great place to find deals on rings, especially if you have waited until the last minute — and most especially this year. You may have heard there’s been some type of recent trouble with the economy, I think the news media may have picked up this story, so with that as motivation, many jewelers have dropped prices on rings or are more willing to be more flexible with negotiating prices.

I actually bought an engagement ring 4 months ago from Sausalito Jewelers. I would certainly never think of Sausalito as a place to find a good deal on anything, and this shop carries only jewelry from select designers. I won’t say how much I paid for my wonderful woman’s engagement ring, but I can tell you that she was very happy with her ring and I got a screaming deal.

Not everyone can visit Sausalito for their holiday shopping, so seek out designers selling direct to the public online.

Dana Arts is one place to find stunningly unique designs for both him and her at a reasonable price.

For ecologically responsible jewelry, greenKarat offers hot ring designs and the ability to create your own custom design.

In Conclusion: Be Picky

If you decide to buy someone a ring as a gift, whether your budget is large or small, you’re likely to make someone happy. However, do try to get some ideas of what they like in terms of style. Wearing a ring is a very personal thing, especially when it was given as a gift. Make sure it fits the style and sensilities of the person you’re buying for — and not just their finger.
